The President of Portugal applauds the Spanish economic measures

President of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva conservative, today praised the measures taken in Spain to stabilize the economy and was confident that the neighboring country will overcome the crisis.

In a public ceremony on the challenges of globalization and immigration Lisbon, Cavaco Silva said in relation to the economic measures adopted in Spain, the only thing you can do is “applaud” and congratulate your Government for the “courage” that demonstrated.

The head of state highlighted Luso Spanish decision to resolve the fiscal imbalance and undertake structural reforms.

Decisions are “important for increasing the competitiveness of the Spanish economy,” said the Portuguese president in response to questions from reporters at the end of the act.

Cavaco Silva, who was reelected last year president of Portugal for a second term of five years, also expressed his belief that “Spain will surpass their difficulties, as will Portugal.”

The statements by the Conservative leader, who was also prime minister of Portugal for a decade, there are four days before the summit Iberian again bring together the governments of the countries for the first time in three years.
