ADR Report-ADRs flat; gold lifts miners, deal boosts semis

NEW YORK, April 5 (Reuters) – U.S.-listed shares of
overseas companies were little changed on Tuesday, though
record gold prices lifted miners and Texas Instruments’ (TXN.N: Quote, Profile, Research)
deal with National Semiconductor (NSM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) boosted shares of
chipmakers.

Japanese ADRs dropped, however, offsetting those gains, the
market still troubled by uncertainty over the impact of the
March 11 earthquake. [ID:nL3E7F5265]

Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSM.N: Quote, Profile, Research)
advanced 2.3 percent to $12.46 in New York while Korea’s LG
Display Co Ltd (LPL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) gained 2.3 percent to $16.84.

Late Monday, Texas Instruments announced its deal to buy
National Semiconductor for $6.5 billion. For details see

Following gold higher, shares of Canada’s Barrick Gold Corp
(ABX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) jumped 5.6 percent to $54.28 in New York, while
Goldcorp Inc (GG.N: Quote, Profile, Research) was up 6 percent at $52.16.

Shares of South Africa’s AngloGold Ashanti Ltd (AU.N: Quote, Profile, Research) rose
3.4 percent to $50.32, while shares of Harmony Gold Mining Co
Ltd (HMY.N: Quote, Profile, Research) gained 3.2 percent to $15.28.

Gold (XAU=: Quote, Profile, Research) jumped to an all-time high above $1,450 an
ounce.

On flip side were U.S.-listed shares of Japanese companies,
including Toyota Motor Corp (TM.N: Quote, Profile, Research), down 2.3 percent at $77.63,
and Canon Inc (CAJ.N: Quote, Profile, Research), down 1.9 percent to $42.68.

The BNY Mellon index of leading American Depositary
Receipts (ADRs) (.BKADR: Quote, Profile, Research) was down 0.02 percent while the U.S.
benchmark S&P 500 index (.SPX: Quote, Profile, Research) down 0.02 percent.

The BNY Mellon index of leading Asian ADRs (.BKAS: Quote, Profile, Research) fell 0.8
percent. The benchmark Nikkei average (.N225: Quote, Profile, Research) closed down 1.1
percent, or 103.34 points, at 9,615.55.

The BNY Mellon index of leading European ADRs (.BKEUR: Quote, Profile, Research) was
up 0.2 percent.

Receipts with the BNY Mellon index of leading Latin
American ADRs (.BKLA: Quote, Profile, Research) were up 0.1 percent.
