AIRSHOW-Qatar says issues in the way of C-series orders

FARNBOROUGH, England, July 19 (BestGrowthStock) – Qatar Airways
would have been happy to announce an order for Bombardier’s
(BBDb.TO: ) C-series passenger jets at the Farnborough Airshow but
unspecified issues have gotten in the way of talks, its chief
executive said on Monday.

Akbar Al Baker said his airline, Qatar’s national carrier,
was still considering the C-series and still saw a need for
planes of that type. The C-series is due to enter service from
2013 serving the market for single-aisle planes carrying 100-149
passengers.

He declined to elaborate on the issues, however,
particularly whether Qatar’s decision was dependent on decisions
by larger manufacturers Boeing (BA.N: ) and Airbus (EAD.PA: ) to
potentially re-engine existing models in the same segment for
greater fuel and operating efficiency.

“If Bombardier knows they are the only one in the field then
we may not get what we want,” Al Baker joked.

He did announce three other orders with Bombardier though —
two Global 5000 jets for Qatar’s executive jet unit and one new
medivac plane.
