Ash forces France to shut air space in stages

PARIS, April 15 (BestGrowthStock) – Northern French airports will be
closed in stages in the coming hours because of the ash cloud
from an Icelandic volcano, with Paris airports to shut by 11
p.m. (2100 GMT) at the latest, authorities said on Thursday.

France’s Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) said airports in
French towns in the far north, including Calais and Lille, would
close from 5 p.m. (1500 GMT).

Other airports in western, eastern and northern France,
including in Strasbourg and Paris, would be shut by 11 p.m. “at
the latest”, the DGAC said in a statement. It did not say when
these airports might reopen.

The ash from the Icelandic volcano has forced authorities to
close air space, affecting thousands of flights, in a wide arc
from Ireland to Scandinavia, with Britain closed to all except
emergency flights until at least 0600 GMT on Friday.
