Australia opposition leader meets key crossbench MPs

SYDNEY (BestGrowthStock) – Australian opposition leader Tony Abbott said on Sunday he had met with three key independents and Green MPs who will decide which party forms a minority government after an inconclusive election on Saturday.

“I don’t want to pre-empt the discussions that I expect will be held over the next few days. I intend to be every pragmatic, but within the broad policy parameters we discussed during the election,” conservative leader Abbott told a news conference.

Labor Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Sunday she had also held preliminary talks with independent lawmakers about forming a minority government, but no deals had been reached.

Gillard said her ruling Labor Party had won the biggest block of votes in Saturday’s cliffhanger elections, and Labor provided the best prospect for stable government after the elections.
