TOKYO, May 24 (BestGrowthStock) – Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki
Shirakawa said on Monday that recent problems in Europe had not
had a direct impact on Japan’s economy when taking into account
effective exchange rates.

“Looking at the effective exchange rate, I don’t think the
situation in Europe has had a direct impact on Japan,” Shirakawa
was quoted as telling cabinet members in a meeting on the
government’s monthly economic report.

It was necessary to watch upside risks of monetary easing
that might cause overheating of emerging economies, and any
negative effects from the problems in Europe on those economies,
Shirakawa was quoted as saying by Keisuke Tsumura, a
parliamentary secretary at the Cabinet Office.
