Box cutters cause FBI probe on Portland plane

PORTLAND, Oregon (BestGrowthStock) – The FBI is investigating how box cutter blades got onto a Delta Air Lines flight from Japan, but reported no incident on Tuesday’s flight and said passengers were unharmed.

The FBI, Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration were called in after Delta alerted authorities to the blades on the flight to Portland from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, which landed early on Tuesday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the crew of Flight No. 90 opted to contact authorities and request they meet the aircraft upon arrival as a result of some box cutter blades found onboard,” Delta said in a statement.

“All passengers were deplaned without incident and we are cooperating with the authorities in their assessment,” Delta said.

The FBI later said the flight’s 155 passengers and 10 crew members were free to go on their way.

U.S. authorities are on high alert for suspicious items aboard airliners after two parcel bombs addressed to Jewish institutions in Chicago were intercepted last week on cargo planes in Britain and Dubai. The mail bombs were thought to be the work of al Qaeda’s Yemen-based arm.
