Changed policies still a dealbreaker in budget: aide

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republicans have modified their proposed policy restrictions in a budget deal that would keep the government running beyond Friday but they are still unacceptable to Democrats, a Democratic aide said on Thursday.

Republicans are no longer insisting on an outright ban on funding for the Planned Parenthood birth-control group, the aide said. Rather, they want to give states discretion about how to use that money, which could allow anti-abortion Republican governors to block funding.

That is still unacceptable to Democrats, the aide said.
