ConEd urges weekend power conservation due NYC heat

* Temperatures to drop to near-normal levels next week

* Some customers lost power during previous heat wave

NEW YORK, July 23 (BestGrowthStock) – With temperatures expected to
approach 100 Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius) in New York City over
the weekend, Consolidated Edison Inc (ED.N: ) on Friday urged
consumers to cut back on power use to help keep everyone’s air
conditioners humming.

The combination of a possible thunderstorms and the hot and
humid weather could stress Con Edison’s power system this
weekend.

Earlier this month, a brutal heat wave left thousands of
homes and businesses in the dark for short periods of time as
Con Edison workers fixed overheated cables in Queens and
Brooklyn.

Forecasters said the mercury would reach well above normal
levels in the upper 90s F in New York on Saturday and Sunday
before dropping to near-normal levels in the 80s F next week.

Con Edison serves about 3.2 million customers in the New
York City and Westchester County.
