EU informing Rio, BHP of JV antitrust probe findings

BRUSSELS (BestGrowthStock) – EU regulators are briefing BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto on the outcome of their antitrust probe into their planned joint venture, the European Commission said on Friday.

“The preliminary investigation is coming to an end. So, we are finishing the preliminary investigation and are in the process of informing the parties,” Amelia Torres, a Commission spokeswoman on competition matters, told a daily briefing.

The European Commission, the EU antitrust watchdog, has been examining the companies’ proposed iron ore production joint venture in western Australia to see if it will hurt competition on the global market for seaborne iron ore.
