Euro hits fresh 4-month high vs dollar

LONDON, March 4 (Reuters) – The euro rose to a fresh 4-month
high against the dollar on Friday on expectations the European
Central Bank may raise rates next month following comments by
ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet the previous day.

Comments by ECB official Nout Wellink added to this view on
Friday, when he was quoted in DNB magazine saying the central
bank should raise rates sooner or later. See [ID:nWEB3550]

The euro (EUR=: Quote, Profile, Research) hit a high of $1.3977 on EBS trading
platform, traders said.

The single currency still faces strong resistance ahead of
reported barriers at $1.40.
