European shares extend gains; hit two-week highs

LONDON, Feb 17 (BestGrowthStock) – European shares extended gains in
morning session on Wednesday to hit a two-week high, as banking
stocks rose further following soothing results from BNP Paribas
(BNPP.PA: ).

At 0851 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 (.FTEU3: ) index of top
European shares was up 1.1 percent at 1,012.79 points after
rising as high as 1,013.19 — the highest level since Feb. 2.
The benchmark index is up more than 56 percent since hitting a
record low in March 2009.

Banks were among the top gainers, with BNP Paribas, France’s
biggest listed bank, rising 2.5 percent after posting higher

Standard Chartered (STAN.L: ), HSBC (HSBA.L: ), Barclays
(BARC.L: ), Lloyds (LLOY.L: ), Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS.L: ),
Societe Generale (SOGN.PA: ), Credit Agricole (CAGR.PA: ) and
Natixis (CNAT.PA: ) gained 1.1 to 3.1 percent.
