Explosives found in New Haven, Conn home

NEW YORK (BestGrowthStock) – Bomb-making materials and explosive devices were discovered inside a Connecticut home on Thursday, authorities said.

The explosives in the New Haven apartment are not believed to be related to any terrorist activity, said city Police Chief Frank Limon.

Authorities made the discovery after a neighbor called the fire department to report smoke from the first-floor apartment late on Wednesday, authorities said.

“When they arrived, they extinguished the fire, and when they inspected the apartment they discovered what appeared to the fire department to be explosive materials inside the apartment,” Limon said.

The materials were identified as explosives and improvised explosive devices, according to Jessica Mayorga, spokeswoman for the city of New Haven.

The apartment was not occupied, but police have “a person of interest that we want to talk to,” Limon said.

The area around the home was cordoned off by police. The neighborhood is described as quiet, lined with multifamily homes.

Police and FBI were preparing an extensive search of the property, authorities said.
