Factbox: Sean Coffey, candidate for NY attorney general

NEW YORK (BestGrowthStock) – Sean Coffey, a former trial lawyer and federal prosecutor, is one of five Democratic candidates competing next Tuesday in the Democratic primary for New York Attorney General. Some facts about him:

* Coffey, 54, is a former U.S. Navy officer who flew P-3 Orion missions tracking Soviet submarines during the Cold War. He was later assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was a personal military assistant to Vice President George H.W. Bush.

* He became an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York in 1991, listing convictions of a heroin distribution ring and a stolen car network among his major accomplishments.

* In 1995, he moved into private practice. At Bernstein Litowitz, Coffey represented investors in the WorldCom securities case. He also represented retired investors in an audit malpractice case against Arthur Andersen.

* Coffey is the son of Irish immigrant parents. He says his father came to America with a fourth-grade education and put seven kids through college. Coffey is now the father of three children aged 13 to 18.

* This is Coffey’s first political campaign. He has been endorsed by the New York Post newspaper.
