French rail workers vote to extend strike -unions

PARIS, Oct 13 (BestGrowthStock) – Around half the union meetings
taking place across France on Wednesday voted unanimously to
extend strikes in the state-run rail sector in protest at
government pension reform plans, with the other half yet to
vote, unions said.

“Around half the meetings have voted. They have all voted to
extend the strike,” said a spokesman for the CGT union. Other
labour groups confirmed this.

State railway workers are regarded as the bedrock of the
union-led protests against President Nicolas Sarkozy’s flagship
pension reform. The SNCF state railway company said roughly a
quarter of workers stayed off the job on Wednesday, a day after
a 24-hour strike and marches against the bill.
