Funeral home sanctioned after family gets wrong ashes

KANSAS CITY (BestGrowthStock) – The state of Missouri on Wednesday revoked the license of a funeral home that provided the wrong cremated remains for a memorial mass and then tried to hide the mistake.

Marts Memorial Services can no longer direct funerals or provide advance funeral plans, said the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration.

State regulators said Marts allowed someone else’s cremated remains to be used at a woman’s funeral mass in July and then later gave her husband false information about what happened. Other violations included storing bodies at a temperature of 50 degrees instead of 40 degrees.

Marts had been on probation since May, 2009 for other alleged violations.

Owner Ronald Marts today referred questions to his lawyer, who did not immediately return a call for comment.
