Gerber combo axe poses laceration risk: CPSC

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Around 103,000 Gerber combo axes have been voluntarily recalled due to a risk of laceration, the government said on Wednesday.

The Gerber Gator Combo Axe, which has a knife stored in the handle, can come out during use, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.

Gerber Legendary Blades has received five reports of injury, all requiring stitches.

The similar Gerber Combo Axe II, which holds a saw in a longer axe handle, is not included in the recall.

The recalled axes were sold nationwide at The Sportsman’s Guide, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops/American Rod & Gun and online since March 2005.

Consumers should remove the knife from the handle and contact Gerber for a free handle cap.
