German centre-left take control of major state

BERLIN, July 14 (BestGrowthStock) – The Social Democrats (SPD) and
Greens on Wednesday took power in North Rhine-Westphalia after
the parliament in Germany’s most populous state elected the
SPD’s Hannelore Kraft to head a minority government.

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives lost the state in
May’s regional election which also cost her centre-right
coalition its majority in Germany’s upper house of parliament.

The centre-left SPD has speculated that they and the Greens
could form a minority government at national level after the
next federal election scheduled for 2013.
