Head of German coalition party won’t seek re-election

BERLIN, April 3 (Reuters) – The head of German Chancellor
Angela Merkel’s junior coalition partner, the Free Democrats
(FDP), will not seek re-election at his party’s upcoming party
congress in May.

“After 10 years as party chairman, I will not run for the
office again at the coming federal party congress,” Guido
Westerwelle told reporters on Sunday, adding he would focus on
his job as foreign minister in Merkel’s cabinet.
