Honduras is back in the OAS

Best Growth Stock – With 32 votes in favor and 1 against, Honduras returned to the Organization of American States. After a 23-month suspension, Honduras returns to the Organization of American States (OAS), thus was established a few minutes ago at an extraordinary session of the international agency in Washington.

Thus ends the punishment that the organization he imposed on the country in 2009, after the military coup that overthrew former President Manuel Zelaya on June 28 of that year.

Ecuador was the only country to vote against the reinstatement of Honduras, claiming that the coup committed multiple violations of human rights.

MarĂ­a Isabel Salvador, Ecuador Ambassador to the OAS stated emphatically: “Democracy, rule of law, due process, human rights, no to impunity, are not only words that are repeated in speeches”.

The return of Honduras to the OAS joins the return of the former President Manuel Zelaya his country on 28 May. Zelaya and the current President of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo, signed an agreement for national reconciliation and the consolidation of the democratic system. The agreement was signed in Cartagena, and counted with the mediation of the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos.

The news of the re-entry of Honduras OAS comes four days before the Organization held its 41 General Assembly in El Salvador. He is expected that the main topics to be discussed during the meeting, which will go from 5 to 7 June, will be how to combat violence and consolidate security citizen in America.
