Hungary’s ruling Fidesz extends big poll lead

BUDAPEST, Nov 25 (BestGrowthStock) – Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party
extended its major lead in opinion polls in November, according
to a survey by pollster Tarki published late on Wednesday.

It put support for Fidesz at 49 percent among all voters in
November after 44 percent in October, while backing for the main
opposition Socialists slipped to 10 percent from 11 percent.

The Far-right party Jobbik saw its popularity slip by one
point to 6 percent among all voters in November, while the LMP,
the other smaller party in parliament, remained at 4 percent.
The centre-right government led by Fidesz, which won April’s
parliamentary election by a landslide on a pledge to end years
of austerity under the left, has repeatedly stirred up markets
since taking power.

It has given the cold shoulder to international lenders,
launched a string of unorthodox economic policies, and moved to
limit the power of institutions such as the Constitutional Court
and the independent budget watchdog, the Fiscal Council.

However, its measures seem to go down well on the street, as
support for Fidesz among decided voters rose to 71 percent in
November from 66 percent in October, while the popularity of
both the Socialists and Jobbik declined from the prior month.
