Hurricane Earl weakens off U.S. eastern seaboard

MIAMI (BestGrowthStock) – Hurricane Earl weakened to a Category 1 storm on Friday as it churned up the U.S. eastern seaboard toward New England and Canada.

The National Hurricane Center said Earl, once a Category 4 storm on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity, was now packing top sustained winds of 85 miles per hour.

The storm’s center was located about 175 miles northeast of Cape Hatteras and about 350 miles south southwest of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
