Kentucky 15-year-old charged with murder of guardians

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Reuters) – A 15-year-old southern Kentucky youth was charged with murder in the shooting deaths of his guardians, state police said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, state police were notified that a search was on for a 12-year-old runaway girl, believed to be in the company of a 15-year-old male.

The search for the missing juveniles led to the home of the boy’s legal guardians, Gary Holloway, 50, and Barbara Holloway, 51, about six miles east of Edmonton, Kentucky, police said.

A family member entered the home Tuesday afternoon and found the couple shot to death and their car missing, according to Trooper Billy Gregory, spokesman for the Kentucky State Police.

Police later that evening found both juveniles in the car. A short pursuit ensued and the driver drove off the road and through a fence. The two were caught after a short foot chase, police said.

The 12-year-old was released to a parent, while the 15-year-old is being held in a youth facility.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Gary Holloway died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds and Barbara Holloway died from a single gunshot wound, state police spokesman Gregory said.
