Luxembourg fin min hopes for EU deal on Greece

LUXEMBOURG, March 25 (BestGrowthStock) – European Union leaders need
to reach a decision on safety net for Greece, but it would not
be a disaster if such a decision were not taken this week,
Luxembourg Finance Minister Luc Frieden said on Thursday.

Asked about the possibility of Greece going to the
International Monetary Fund for help, Frieden told Reuters: “I
think that a European solution must always be part of the deal.”

“If that European solution is complemented by some IMF
technical or financial assistance that would not weaken at all
the euro,” he said on the sidelines of a conference in
Luxembourg.

He said it was important that it’s “a European decision
taken by European leaders and that the decisions on the
conditions are set up by Europe. That is key to making the euro
credible and stable.”

Frieden said that the last Eurogroup meeting this month had
put everything in place to take a political decision.

“I would welcome a decision taken at the summit but it would
not be a disaster if no decision would be taken. It is possible
to take a decision if it is necessary,” he said.

“I think we are very close to an outcome based on the
excellent preparatory work that was done in the Eurogroup last
time,” he said.
