Nikkei at 11-week closing low after paring losses

TOKYO, May 19 (BestGrowthStock) – Japan’s Nikkei average fell 0.5
percent to an 11-week closing low on Wednesday as worries about
tighter U.S. and German financial regulation rattled markets,
spurring selling in the euro and other riskier assets.

But short-covering after the Nikkei managed to stay above
psychological support at 10,000 helped it pare losses that
earlier took it down nearly 2 percent.

The Nikkei (.N225: ) lost 55.80 points to 10,186.84, its lowest
close since March 4, after earlier falling to 10,041.93, the
lowest since mid-February.

The broader Topix (.TOPX: ) shed 0.4 percent to 910.64.
