Nikkei pares losses after profit-taking; Sony weighs

TOKYO, May 14 (BestGrowthStock) – Japan’s Nikkei average lost 1.5
percent on Friday, paring earlier losses that took it down more
than 2 percent, though shares with disappointing outlooks such as
Sony Corp (6758.T: ) weighed on the market.

Shinsei Bank (8303.T: ) lost 4.5 percent after it said it had
cancelled a planned merger with Aozora Bank (8304.T: ) that would
have created Japan’s No.6 bank and after Japan’s banking minister
called for strong government guidance for the bank.

The benchmark Nikkei (.N225: ) shed 158.04 points to 10,462.51
after earlier falling as much as 2.2 percent on profit-taking in
the wake of a 2.2 percent rise on Thursday. The broader Topix
(.TOPX: ) lost 1.2 percent to 936.45.
