Nikkei up nearly 1 pct with strong overseas markets

TOKYO, April 7 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average was up
nearly 1 percent shortly after the opening on Thursday as falls
in the prior two sessions took the market to levels investors
found attractive, especially after convincing gains in the U.S.
and other overseas equities markets.
But the Nikkei is seen likely to struggle to post
strong gains as investors refrain from chasing shares on rallies
due to uncertainty over Tokyo Electric Power Co's
nuclear safety crisis and worries over lost output.
The benchmark Nikkei was up 0.9 percent at 9,685.65
points while the broader Topix gained 1.2 percent to
849.74.
