North Korea leader son takes key party post: report

SEOUL (BestGrowthStock) – North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s son and heir-apparent to the dynastic state, Kim Jong-un, has been named vice chairman of the ruling Workers’ Party’s powerful Central Military Commission, state media said on Wednesday.

Jong-un, who is believed to have been born in 1983 or 1984 and had been given his first public title on Tuesday as a general, was also named a Central Committee member at the first party conference in 30 years, KCNA news agency said.

The party conference, where KCNA said Kim Jong-il was in attendance, also made the leader’s sister a member of the political bureau and her husband — a close confidant of the reclusive leader — an alternate member.

The pair had been considered key backers of the young son as the North moves forward with succession plans amid reports the leader is in deteriorating health, analysts have said..
