Obama welcomes emerging deal on financial reform debate

QUINCY, Illinois, April 28 (BestGrowthStock) – President Barack
Obama on Wednesday welcomed signs that a deal was near on
opening the way for U.S. Senate debate on a financial
regulatory overhaul but insisted he would not agree to any bill
“written by” financial industry lobbyists.

“I’m very pleased by that,” Obama said in a speech in
Quincy, Illinois, referring to word that Senate Republicans
were close to ending a three-day standoff with Obama’s fellow
Democrats over the issue.

Obama said, however, he would oppose any legislation that
he felt was too heavily influenced by lobbyists trying to
protect Wall Street firms from tighter regulation.
