Panama Canal to leave tolls unchanged in 2010

PANAMA CITY, April 27 (BestGrowthStock) – The Panama Canal, which
handles about 4 percent of global trade, will leave tolls
unchanged this year, the government-run company that
administers the canal said on Tuesday.

The shipping link between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans
is undergoing a $5.25 billion expansion but the Panama Canal
Authority said the global economy was still too weak for it to
raise prices.

“In view of the current world economic situation, the
(Panama Canal Authority) has decided not to proceed with a
tolls adjustment in 2010,” it said in a statement.

The company said it would modify prices in 2011.

The canal is an important source of government revenue.
