Petrobras leads the ranking of sustainability of energy in Latin America

Best Growth Stock – Petrobras was considered one of the 100 most sustainable corporations in the world, according to the Global 100 ranking, developed by Corporate Knights magazine.

Petrobras earned the highest marks in the study of sustainability among the largest companies of energy in Latin America. This ranking was developed by the Spanish consultancy Management & Excellence (M & E) in partnership with the Latin Finance magazine, an international publication specialized in the Latin American market.

According to this consulting firm, the classification of this year has taken into account not only the accession, but also if the companies were, in fact, implementing sustainability policies. Petrobras highlighted this item to achieve a rating higher than that obtained their peers in the category of performance in sustainability.

The method used to prepare this year’s report includes over 200 attributes related to sustainability, social responsibility, corporate governance, environmental and financial practices. According to M & E, investors and shareholders are becoming more interested in obtaining this kind of information about companies. The reason for this is that it has been shown that investments in sustainability impact the quality of management and, therefore, in the financial fundamentals. For example, a good ethics program can reduce operational expenditure by 5% and comprehensive training programs for employees can have an impact between 30% to 800% in productivity and income, according to the studies of M & E conducted with major Latin American companies.

Petrobras commitment to sustainable development has led the company to achieve various awards. Earlier this year, Petrobras was considered one of the 100 most sustainable corporations in the world, according to the Global 100 ranking, developed by the magazine Corporate Knights, a Canadian publication specializing in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. And, in 2010, the company managed, for the fifth year followed, the right to form part of the index Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the most important global sustainability index.
