Police probe why man drove car onto Bush’s front lawn

DALLAS (BestGrowthStock) – Police and the Secret Service were investigating on Thursday why a man drove a vintage 1970s high performance car onto the front lawn of former President George W. Bush’s home in a gated north Dallas neighborhood.

The unidentified driver of the Mercury Cougar “muscle” car was questioned and released after officials determined the incident was an accident and the man posed no threat to the former president.

Police swarmed the area in the exclusive Preston Hollow neighborhood shortly before 8 p.m. local time Wednesday.

“President and Mrs. Bush are okay,” family spokesman David Scherzer said in a statement released to reporters. “They appreciate the work of the U.S. Secret Service and the Dallas Police Department in responding to the incident.”

The unidentified man had been allowed entrance to the neighborhood to attend a party at another home, and neighbors told reporters they had seen him driving erratically. He told investigators that he lost control of the car when the accelerator pedal became stuck.

Bush maintains a generally low profile in the neighborhood which houses some of Dallas’ wealthiest and most influential citizens. He and former First Lady Laura Bush purchased the home shortly after leaving the White House last year, and they split time between Dallas and their famous ranch in Crawford, Texas.
