Portugal govt welcomes PSD effort for budget talks

LISBON, Oct 21 (BestGrowthStock) – Portugal’s minority government
welcomes the main opposition party’s appointment of negotiators
over the 2011 budget, and hopes to have a deal “as soon as
possible”, Cabinet Minister Pedro Silva Pereira said on
Thursday.

“The conditions are there for a dialogue on the budget to
finally begin,” he told a news briefing. The first vote on the
budget’s general guidelines is set on Nov .3 in parliament.

On Wednesday the main opposition Social Democrats set terms
for allowing passage of the government’s budget bill, including
lower tax hikes and more spending cuts, which the government
