Portugal PSD opposition to approve 2011 budget

LISBON, Nov 23 (BestGrowthStock) – Portugal’s main opposition Social
Democrats (PSD) will allow passage of the minority Socialist
government’s 2011 budget in the final vote on Nov. 26, PSD
lawmaker Miguel Frasquilho told parliament on Tuesday.

“This is about honouring our word, to the government and to
the Portuguese people,” Frasquilho told parliament, adding that
the party will vote against any proposals by other opposition
parties that could block the budget.

The PSD and government struck an agreement on the budget at
the end of last month, promising to abstain in the vote and
thereby allowing the budget to pass in parliament.

The government rules without a majority.
