PRECIOUS – Factors to watch on April 7

LONDON, April 7 (Reuters) – Gold edged down on Thursday as
ETF holdings fell to their lowest level in almost a year, but
prices held near the previous day’s record high as a weaker
dollar lured non-U.S. investors.

PRICES
* Spot gold (XAU=: Quote, Profile, Research) was at $1,454.35 an ounce at 0634 GMT
compared with $1,457 late in New York on Wednesday.

The metal price struck a record peak of $1,461.91 an ounce
on Wednesday.

* Silver (XAG=: Quote, Profile, Research) was at $39.31 an ounce from $39.43.

* Platinum (XPT=: Quote, Profile, Research) at $1,777.50 an ounce from $1,787.5.

* Palladium (XPD=: Quote, Profile, Research) at $774.97 an ounce from $778.1.

* German industrial output for February, 1000 GMT

* UK Bank of England rate for April, 1100 GMT

* Euro zone ECB rate decision for April, 1145 GMT

MARKET NEWS

* The euro slipped from an 11-month high against the yen and
14-month peak versus the dollar on Thursday, as investors
focused on how much room the European Central Bank has for
raising interest rates beyond a widely expected tightening later
in the day. [FRX/]

* Brent crude dipped in Asian trade after five straight days
of gains, slipping below $122 a barrel on concern that rising
prices will hurt demand from the world’s top oil consumers the
United States and China. [O/R]

* European shares were set to open slightly lower ahead of a
widely expected rise in rates by the European Central Bank, with
focus on peripheral banks after Portugal decided to seek
financial aid. [.EU]

* The S&P 500 index inched upward on relatively light volume
on Wednesday, with investors adding to winning positions in
technology stocks but avoiding large bets ahead of corporate

FUNDAMENTALS

* Holdings of the largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund
(ETF), New York’s SPDR Gold Trust (GLD: Quote, Profile, Research), fell 0.6 percent on
Wednesday from Tuesday, while the largest silver-backed ETF
iShares Silver trust did not witness any change in holdings.

* Gold support at $1,448, resistance at $1,472 14-day RSI at
65.

* Silver support at $38.75, resistance at $40.40, 14-day RSI
at 75.
