THE GLOBE AND MAIL:

– With a federal cabinet decision on the fate of the
Prosperity mine expected any day, B.C. Mining Minister Bill
Bennett is warning that rejection would deal a massive blow to
the province’s economy.

Ottawa’s verdict is the last major hurdle to be cleared by
Taseko Mines Ltd (TKO.TO: ) after 15 years of pursuing what is
believed to be one of the largest undeveloped copper-gold
deposits in Canada.

BUSINESS SECTION:

– Copper producer Equinox Minerals Ltd (EQN.AX: ) is looking
to Saudi Arabia for its next phase of growth by striking a
$1.26 billion deal to buy Australian base metals developer
Citadel Resource Group Ltd (CGG.AX: ).

The cash-and-share deal, announced late Sunday, will give
the Canadian-Australian miner control over Citadel’s portfolio
of development and exploration assets in Saudi Arabia,
including its flagship Jabal Sayid copper-gold project that is
scheduled to begin production late next year.

NATIONAL POST:

– Two people were killed and one was in critical condition
in an apparent rash of random shootings in a Winnipeg
neighbourhood on Saturday night.

A police spokesman warned citizens late Saturday not to
open their doors to unexpected visitors and not to investigate
if they hear something suspicious.

FINANCIAL POST:

– The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) on Sunday
approved a settlement with the Competition Bureau that paves
the way for a dramatic restructuring of how residential
property is bought and sold in this country.

By a measure of 97 percent, representatives from close to
100 boards across Canada with nearly 100,000 Realtor members,
voted in St. John’s to ratify the negotiated settlement CREA
reached last month with Melanie Aitken the Commissioner of
Competition.
