PREVIEW-Argentina Feb trade surplus seen slightly narrower

WHAT: Argentina’s February trade balance data

WHEN: Tuesday, March 23

REUTERS FORECAST, TRADE SURPLUS: Average estimate $1.2
billion, 5.8 percent narrower than in Feb. 2009

FACTORS TO WATCH: The relative stability of the Argentine
peso currency has helped attract imports to the South American
country. The government has moved to block some imports in a
bid to reduce inflation. High consumer prices are hurting
President Cristina Fernandez’s popularity ahead of next year’s
election, in which her husband, Nestor Kirchner, might run.
Political pressure to do more about inflation could build ahead
of the October 2010 vote.
