PREVIEW-Mexico April consumer confidence likely rose

WHAT: Mexico consumer confidence during April

WHEN: Tuesday, May 4, at 9 a.m. (1400 GMT)

REUTERS FORECAST: Median 82.1 April vs 81.8 March. Eleven
clients participated in the survey and the range was between
80.5 and 85.0.

FACTORS TO WATCH: Consumer confidence likely rose in April
but remains well below pre-recession levels as Mexico recovers
from a steep downturn. The economy contracted 6.5 percent in
2009.

The country’s export sector has been leading a recovery but
consumers are still keeping their wallets shut amid
persistently high unemployment. Consumer confidence is expected
to rise slowly this year.
