PREVIEW-Mexico June retail sales seen +4.1 pct yr/yr

WHAT: Mexico retail sales for June

WHEN: Monday, Aug 23 at 9:00 a.m. (1400 GMT)

REUTERS FORECAST: Median +4.1 percent year/year in June vs
+5.0 pct in May. Eleven clients participated in the survey and
the range was +1.9 pct to +4.8 pct.

FACTORS TO WATCH: A weakening economy in the United States
is expected to have a knock-on effect in Mexico, which sends
about 80 percent of its exports over its northern border and is
recovering from a deep recession.

Consumer confidence in Mexico unexpectedly slipped in July
and locals are uneasy about spending while the future is so
uncertain.

Many economists expect consumers to open their wallets
later this year, which would partially compensate for an
expected cooling in manufacturing output. But a deceleration in
sales growth for June could be a set back for the nation’s
recovery.
