IMF MAY CUT ROMANIA GROWTH FORECAST FOR 2010

The International Monetary Fund could cut its forecast for
Romania’s 2010 economic growth and will likely ask the centrist
coalition government to renew its commitment to meeting a budget
deficit target.

NUCLEAR REACTOR SHUT DOWN

The first reactor at Romania’s sole nuclear power plant in
Cernavoda will be shut down in May and June for various checks,
said Pompiliu Budulan, the head of the plant’s operator

Romanian state-owned electricity distributor Electrica will
hold a public tender auction to buy IT services. The contract is

TEACHERS STRIKE

Teachers will hold a national pay strike in the education
sector on April 22, protesting against planned job cuts in the
public sector.

NEW PARTY IN PARLIAMENT

A group of independent parliamentarians, who currently back
the centrist coalition government, received approval from a
Bucharest court to form a new party that will be called the
National Union for Romania’s Progress (UNPR).
