ROMANIA NOV INFLATION EDGES DOWN TO 7.7 PCT YR/YR

Romania’s annual inflation (ROCPI=ECI: ) fell to 7.7 percent
in November from October’s 7.9 percent, a notch below market
expectations, data showed on Friday.

ROMANIA JAN-OCT TRADE DEFICIT NARROWS 5 PCT Y/Y

Romania’s ten-month trade deficit (ROTBAL=ECI: ) narrowed by
roughly 5 percent on the year to 7.7 billion euros ($10.16
billion), as exports’ growth rate outpaced that of imports, data
showed on Friday.

It is now certain that end-year inflation will be under 8
percent, said Adrian Vasilescu, an adviser to central bank
governor Mugur Isarescu.

IMF DEAL

An International Monetary Fund mission will be in Romania as
of Jan. 20 to discuss a new precautionary loan deal with
authorities, Prime Minister Emil Boc said. He also said the size
of the deal was not discussed so far.

NEW TRANSLECTRICA HEAD

Constantin Trihenea will be the new head of Romanian
state-owned hydro-power producer Hidroelectrica as of Jan. 1,
replacing Mihai David, the economy ministry said in a statement.

ETHNIC HUNGARIANS

Marko Bela, the head of the ruling ethnic Hungarian Party,
will not run for a new term. The two candidates for the party’s
leadership are Kelemen Hunor, Romania’s Culture Minister, and
Peter Eckstein Kovacs, the president’s legal adviser.

Elections will take place in the first quarter of 2011.
