Romania – Factors to Watch on March 31

BUCHAREST, March 31 (Reuters) – Here are news stories, press
reports and events to watch which may affect Romanian financial
markets on Thursday.

RATE MEETING

Romania’s central bank holds rate-setting meeting. A
statement could be released as early as 0900 GMT.

ROMANIA SEEN KEEPING RATES UNCHANGED AT RECORD LOW

All 14 analysts polled by Reuters see the bank keeping rates
flat at a record low of 6.25 percent in March and May. Only five
see cuts ranging from 25 to 75 basis points by the end of the
year while eight see rates remaining at current levels in 2011.

GOVERNMENT MEETING

The centrist coalition government holds meeting at 1400 GMT
with no agenda available yet.

EU COMMISSIONER IN ROMANIA

EU internal market commissioner Michel Barnier is on a visit
to Romania and is expected to meet President Traian Basescu and
other Romanian officials.

ROMANIA AIMS TO SELL 4.5 BLN LEI IN DEBT IN APRIL

Romania aims to sell 4.5 billion lei ($1.54 billion) worth
of leu currency bills and bonds in April, more than the 3.6
billion it sold this month, the finance ministry said on
Wednesday. [ID:nBUC003868]

The finance ministry plans to issue domestic debt worth
13-15 billion lei overall in the April-June, similar to what it
sold in the first quarter.

ELECTRICITY PRICE

Electricity tariffs for households will rise by about 4.5
percent from April 1 when an additional fee for supporting

BCR

Romania’s largest bank, BCR, owned by Austria’s Erste Bank
(ERST.VI: Quote, Profile, Research), plans to increase its share capital by 5 percent to
1.1 billion lei ($372.3 million) by incorporating last year’s
net profit of 55.4 million lei. The proposal will be discussed
at the bank’s shareholders meeting in April.
