Ryanair says no Aer Lingus bid unless government offers stake

DUBLIN (BestGrowthStock) – Irish airline Ryanair (RYA.I: ) has no plans to make a third offer for rival carrier Aer Lingus (AERL.I: ) unless the government, which owns a 25 percent stake in Aer Lingus, offers to sell its shares.

“We are obviously not going to make another offer unless the government approaches us on a voluntary basis to offer their share for sale,” Deputy Chief Executive Michael Cawley told national broadcaster RTE.

Ireland’s government is considering selling state assets as it seeks to cut the worst budget deficit in Europe. It has not said what it plans to do with its shares in Aer Lingus.
