S.Africa’s Eskom may need to pay more for coal -CEO

CAPE TOWN, Sept 7 (BestGrowthStock) – South Africa’s Eskom (ESCJ.UL: )
may have to pay more for its coal as it looks to improve the
quality of the resource used at is power stations, the chief
executive of the power utility said on Tuesday.

“We are engaging with the mining companies. We may have to
renegotiate contracts and pay more for the coal, as well as
invest in plants that clean up the coal,” Brian Dames told
lawmakers.

Dames said that South Africa is losing up to 1,000 megawatts
of capacity every day due to poor coal quality at its power
stations.
