Senate leader Reid not optimistic on budget deal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday evening his confidence has diminished ahead of a meeting at the White House with Republican House Speaker John Boehner to break the impasse over the budget.

“I’m not really optimistic,” Reid said on the Senate floor ahead of an 8 p.m. EDT meeting with President Barack Obama, an effort to avert a government shutdown that would occur at midnight on Friday if the two sides can not come to a deal.
