S&P says Gulf govts ratings not yet hurt by oil spill

MIAMI, July 6 (BestGrowthStock) – Standard & Poor’s Ratings
Services on Tuesday said the credit ratings of Louisiana,
Mississippi and other state and local governments in the Gulf
have not yet been stung by the BP Plc (BP.L: ) oil spill.

“Although tourism, fishing, shipping, and energy — the
businesses likely to be most affected by the oil spill — have
long been major contributors to the Gulf state economies, we
believe that in the near term, the Gulf states, where these
industries are important, will retain their current credit
ratings,” S&P credit analyst Horacio Aldrete-Sanchez said in a
report.
