* Centre-left opposition gets 51.2 pct vs centre-right 43.1

* Opposition to unveil key economic measures on Monday

STOCKHOLM, April 30 (BestGrowthStock) – Sweden’s centre-left
opposition alliance, eyeing a return to power in a September
election, has maintained a strong lead over the centre-right
government, an opinion poll showed on Friday.

The DN/Synovate poll, giving the Social Democrat-led bloc
51.2 percent support versus the government’s 43.1 percent, came
out before the opposition’s presentation on Monday of budget
measures expected to feature tax and spending rises.

“Historically, no bloc during the modern era has managed to
come back from such a great deficit in the April survey ahead of
the elections,” wrote the Dagens Nyheter newspaper, which
commissioned the poll.

The opposition Social Democratic Party, the Green Party and
the Left Party, working in a red-green alliance, have been ahead
of Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt’s four-party centre-right
alliance in opinion polls for much of his four years in office.

Reinfeldt swept to power in 2006 on promises of making tax
cuts, but preserving Sweden’s cherished welfare state.

He said he would also create more jobs, but unemployment is
now higher than when he came to office due to the global crisis.
At the same time, the Nordic state has come out of the downturn
in better shape than many other European Union nations.

The poll of 2,677 voters showed the Social Democrats, which
held a grip on power for most of the 20th century, as the
largest party and roughly holding onto its support from the 2006
election, but their Green Party allies have surged.

The centre-left shadow budget due on Monday, the first time
the parties have presented a joint budget plan, is expected to
include a tax on private wealth and higher spending on
infrastructure and local governments. [ID:nLDE63R2N9]

It is also expected to present plans to raise income taxes
for high wage earners. [ID:nLDE63S0D7]
