Taiwan UMC’s March sales more than double vs yr ago

TAIPEI, April 8 (BestGrowthStock) – Taiwan’s UMC (2303.TW: ), the
world’s No.2 contract chip maker, said on Thursday its March
sales more than doubled from a year ago amid stronger demand for
new computers and other high-tech gadgets.

Sales at United Microelectronics Corp (UMC) (UMC.N: ) reached
T$9.48 billion ($300 million) last month, up from T$4.54 billion
the same month a year ago and higher than February’s T$8.635
billion, the company said in a statement to the Taiwan stock
exchange.

The results came after the Taipei stock market closed on
Thursday. The stock fell 0.87 percent, while the main TAIEX share
index (.TWII: ) lost 0.79 percent. UMC closed down 0.87 percent.
