Taiwan’s Compal Q2 profit beats forecasts

TAIPEI, Aug 31 (BestGrowthStock) – Taiwan’s Compal Electronics
(2324.TW: ), the world’s No.2 contract laptop maker, said on
Tuesday its second quarter earnings doubled from a year earlier,
beating forecasts.

Compal earned a net profit of T$6.4 billion ($200 million) in
April-June, double the T$3.24 billion in the same period a year
earlier but below the first quarter’s T$8.52 billion, the company
said in a statement on Tuesday.

The profit beat a consensus forecast of T$5.75 billion from
Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Compal did not provide any other details. It is set to hold
an investor conference on Wednesday to explain the results.

Earlier, rival and sector leader Quanta Computer (2382.TW: )
posted quarterly earnings slightly below forecasts and left its
shipment target for 2010 unchanged.[ID:nTPV001907]
