Taiwan’s UMC June sales up 25.5 pct yr/yr

TAIPEI, July 8 (BestGrowthStock) – Taiwan’s UMC (2303.TW: ), the
world’s second-largest contract chipmaker, posted a 25.5 percent
year-on-year rise in June sales after new computers and other
high-tech products boost demand for microchips.

Sales at United Microelectronics Corp (UMC) (UMC.N: ) reached
T$10.336 billion ($322 million) last month, versus T$8.236
billion in the same month a year ago and T$10.1 billion in May,
the company said on its website on Thursday.

It did not give further details.

UMC announced the results after the Taipei stock market
closed on Thursday. UMC shares were unchanged, lagging the main
TAIEX index’s (.TWII: ) 1 percent gain.

Shares of sector leader TSMC (2330.TW: ) (TSM.N: ), whose June
sales are due out on Friday, rose 1.51 percent.
